"In my painting I have the desire and the need to make inner landscapes visible." Jana Albrecht

interview
What motivated you to work as a freelance artist?
Visual design has always been my natural form of expression, what makes me happy. Working in the theater opened up a wealth of techniques and materials to me. At that time, I also began to make my own paints and paint large-format canvases. I also had the first opportunities to show my own work and to join a studio community.
Why do you paint?
I have the desire and the need to make inner landscapes visible. For me, the process of creating my work is a balancing act between conscious action and intuitive "letting it happen". At the beginning there is usually only a vague feeling, an idea of what should emerge, which I then try to approach layer by layer. This process is always fascinating for me and, when it is successful, fulfilling.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I am particularly inspired by structures and natural phenomena. Meditation also influences me.
What materials do you work with?
I work with oil, ink, chalk, pigments and gold leaf, but also with varnish, gouache and linocut, mostly on canvas but also on wood for smaller formats. I like to incorporate the structures contained in them. In my pictures, different materials penetrate and overlap, usually in many layers.

What techniques do you work with?
I work with brushes, spatulas, gilding and pouring. The layering of different consistencies through the use of mixed media contains an unpredictable element. For me, this creates a kind of dialogue between the resulting image and myself, between conscious influence and allowing the uncontrolled.
Are there any colors and landscapes that you prefer?
No, because the process of creating my work always has an uncontrolled, intuitive component. However, colors and shapes often emerge that surprise even me.
Is there a particular place where you prefer to work?
I prefer to work in my studio in Wiesbaden, sometimes on longer trips.
What do you want to say with your art?
I want to make visible what has not yet become an image for me.
What do you value in your work?
It is important to me not to settle on a result too quickly, but to allow myself to be surprised. I sometimes rotate my pictures and then edit them from a new perspective. Different interpretations should be possible.
What are your goals?
I hope to become increasingly visible with my artistic work in the future.
