"It's like Tetris: an idea pops up, I turn it around in my mind, and suddenly it fits. It feels like a 'can-do' picture - I keep painting and intuitively notice that it works."

What inspired you to become an artist and when did you start taking art seriously?

I have always enjoyed painting and studying art just seemed to suit me. There was no specific person who inspired me to become an artist. But there were many impressive works that touched me deeply and captivated me without me being able to say exactly why.

During my studies, I enjoyed my time to the fullest: from the colorful and diverse personalities in the faculty, to the opportunity to try out many techniques, to learning how to develop something tangible from a simple idea. But at that time I didn't yet know in which direction I would develop further.

I continued painting, but without a specific goal in mind. But at some point I felt that I wanted more. With each new painting, my connection to my works became more intense. It was a mixture of what I saw and the stories inside me that were seeking expression.

At that moment I knew I had to keep going. It was like there was no turning back.

Which artists or art movements have most influenced your style and work?

Depending on the phase of my life and work, my interests in the works of other artists vary. I like very different styles and depending on what solutions I need for my work at the time, I sometimes orient myself here and sometimes there.

Could you walk us through the creative process you go through when creating a new piece?

I usually find my inspiration in my surroundings. I often photograph places that appeal to me or fascinate me in a certain way. These photos then serve as a starting point. I then start on the canvas and try to use perspective and lines in such a way that they are reflected in the picture. I often concentrate on a certain point, a color that I particularly like, or an element that reminds me of something. At the beginning I work more conceptually and think a lot. At some point the brush flows as if by itself and the picture begins to show its own path. In this moment I let myself be guided entirely by my intuition.

Is there a particular theme or message you want to convey in your work?

In my landscapes, as well as in my cityscapes and my most recent drawings, there is always a combination of geometric and organic shapes. I understand this combination as a metaphor for the rules in our everyday lives, as well as freedom and the search for a balance between these two concepts.

What has been the biggest challenge on your artistic journey so far and how did you deal with it?

My biggest challenge? I think it was the moment when I started painting for myself and at the same time had to learn not to be afraid of "mistakes", mistakes that often weren't mistakes at all. Also realizing that a painting doesn't always come out immediately and that sometimes it's better to paint over everything after days of hard work and start over.

Are there any techniques and materials that you prefer?

Yes, I really enjoy working with oil. I particularly like the texture and the possibility of continuing to work the next day while the oil is still fresh. I also appreciate using the collage technique on unexpected surfaces.

Is there a particular place where you prefer to work?

Without a doubt in my studio in Wipperfürth. It is a large room with lots of natural light.

Where do you see yourself and your art in the next five years?

At the moment I have the opportunity to take part in many new projects. I'm really looking forward to it and I'm fully energized. In five years? I'll do my best!

Do you have a "philosophy" that guides you in your creative process?

I have to create my images in such a way that it is difficult for me to give them to anyone else.

What advice would you give to other young artists who are just starting out?

A fundamental principle that can be applied to all goals in life is visualization. It helps to develop clear ideas about what you want to achieve.
